Like me you probably can’t wait to get a new album home to drop the needle on and to stare at the artwork for hours. That’s why we do this, and that’s why Rainbow Blonde partners with Bandcamp for our vinyl.
I’m happy to announce the campaign to press this album in marigold-orange. After 11 studio albums I feel like I’ve found my voice as a producer and a performer and this is easily one of my best.
Now you can make it yours.
As many of you who helped fund the Christmas vinyl can attest to, RB & Bandcamp
make some of the best vinyl in the business. Our lacquers are cut by the legendary Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios and pressed to high quality 180 gram vinyl. The artwork features photography by world-renowned artist Janette Beckman and design by Hayden Miller in Berlin.
Here’s how it works: The sooner we hit our goal, the sooner Bandcamp begins pressing. It’s that simple (and yes, we can surpass our goal!). Please note that once pressed this vinyl will NOT be available in stores or immediately sold online - you can only get it right here and now on Bandcamp.
And what an album. My tribute to the iconic songwriting and artistry of Erykah Badu features a who’s-who of today’s contemporary jazz and hip-hop musicians: Big Yuki on keys and synths, Ben Williams on bass and Jharis Yokley on drums. And a few surprises: future legends Ebban Dorsey on alto sax and Diana Dzhabbar on alto sax and flute claim their greatness. Produced by me, recorded live to 2” tape at Dreamland Studios with additional recording at Flowriders Studios, Amsterdam using an SSL 4000E mixing desk formerly owned by Sir Paul McCartney. (Yes, you read that right).
Finally the sessions were mixed down to 2” tape by the visionary Pete Min at Lucy’s Meat Market, LA.
